A Life in Flowers
Meet Sam — the hands and heart behind Lydia’s Garden

I grew up believing that flowers could say what words sometimes can’t. A quiet armful of garden roses on the kitchen table. A cluster of cosmos in a jar by the window. The small, tender gestures that make a day feel softer. That’s where Lydia’s Garden began.
A love of flowers that runs in the family
Lydia’s Garden is a tribute to my wonderful Grandma, Lydia Alice. She tended an amazing Victorian cottage garden and shared her knowledge and love of flowers with my sister, Emma, and me. Whenever we visited, she’d hand us a basket and a pair of snips, and let us wander through her garden, free to cut as many flowers as we liked.
Those afternoons meant hands full of sweet peas and roses, skirts brushing against lavender and rosemary, and they taught me the joy of flowers that are gathered with love, not just grown for show. Today, I create wild and loose country-style bouquets that feel like sweeping my arm through Grandma’s garden. They’re flowers with soul.

In the heart of the Scenic Rim
Canungra is home—mountain air, rich soil, and neighbours who wave from the front gate. The landscape here has its own poetry, and I try to honour that in every bouquet: gentle colour, natural movement, and blooms that feel alive in their season.
My floral style
Romantic, garden-inspired and a little nostalgic. I love the way roses open slowly over a few days, the airy lightness of cosmos, the grace of lisianthus, the texture of foraged foliage. I design with feeling first—letting each stem find its place.
Everyday flowers, extraordinary moments
I love to create flowers for all of life’s moments: the weddings, the parties, the farewells, but also the dinner party posy, the apology, the arrival of a new baby. Most days you’ll find me gathering bouquets, wrapping them quietly, adding your message by hand, and imagining the smile when they arrive. It’s an ordinary kind of magic.

Weddings with heart
For weddings, I listen closely. Your palette, your story, your place. I build a mood that feels like you, then design bouquets, ceremony pieces and reception flowers that belong to your day. The best compliment I can receive is that it all felt effortless and true.
Seasons as teacher
The seasons decide more than I do. I choose the best of what’s blooming and let that guide the work. Some weeks it’s blush dahlias and fragrant foliage; others it’s snapdragons, roses and tiny field flowers that dance in the light.
A gentle philosophy
Quality over quantity. Care over hurry. I source locally where I can, keep packaging simple, and build designs that celebrate the flowers themselves. It’s slower, perhaps, but it feels right.
Where to find me
I work from my space inside My Country Escape, a beautiful homewares store on the main street of Canungra. Pop in anytime and you’ll find me surrounded by fresh blooms, lush indoor plants, and the scent of something just picked from the garden.
If you’d like to say it with flowers
Whether you’re planning a wedding or sending a bouquet “just because”, I’d love to help you say what matters—softly, beautifully, and in your own way.
